Get Paid to Travel the World

get paid to travel

Imagine getting paid to travel the world, see the sights and work remotely from any time zone.  Sounds too good to be true? NOPE, it’s a legit opportunity for the right person (or people). Not a bad way to earn a few dollars while giving you the added benefit of seeing the world and going to places you’ve dreamed of seeing. A little reality check: of course, you’re typically not going to be staying in the London Ritz-Carlton – but somewhere in the heart of trendy London? Absolutely. Beachfront in Hawaii? You bet! However, you’re not the only one who’s interested in this type of opportunity, so jump on it.

Who is the Ideal House Sitter?

This type of side hustle usually isn’t for families (but it might be, check listings for any preferences the homeowner might have).  The typical homeowner looking for a sitter is usually specific about how many people they’re looking for (a single person, a couple, etc.) to perform the house sitting.  Some might be very specific about wanting a particular gender (maybe they have a pet that does well with one gender over another) and might state they don’t want visitors, overnight guests, etc. After all, it’s their house, their rules, so to speak.

What You Need to Do While House Sitting

There’s a reason they need someone: you may need to care for a loving pet, water the plants, get the mail, and just live in the home while the owner is away.  So, it’s usually not without SOME responsibility, but it’s typically on the low end.  Either way, the homeowner will spell out what they’re looking for you to do while they’re away and you can decide if you’re up to it.

Most house-sitting opportunities require a home sitter to be 18 years of age or older and be able to pass a background check. You may be asked for references and need to provide identification for verification such as passport, driver’s license, or other government issued ID. In addition, there are some countries that require a visa to visit or work (even as a tourist) and some will even tax you on your earnings while you’re there because it may be considered “work income”.  Consult a tax professional for assistance on how to ensure you’re claiming, using and paying any taxes owed on monies earned.

Choosing the Perfect Opportunity

This is the perfect opportunity for a single/couple who can travel without pets or kids and has a desire to travel the world (before the pets and kids come along LOL).  Now, in today’s world you can never be too careful where you go or who you give information to so be sure to use a reputable site to find your next locale.

Finally, be sure that you’re signing up on a reputable site and do your research before committing to any engagement.  You should always do an interview (preferably video) so you know exactly who you’re house sitting for, can see the environment, and have a better idea of whether this is a good match for you.  Safety is always paramount for anyone and when in doubt, check them out!
